It was a dismal opening day attendance at Stub Hub Center in Los Angeles. The Chargers who left San Diego at the end of 2016 found themselves in a temporary home at the Stub Hub Center. The NFL seemed go truly go after the LA football market by allowing two teams to move their team to LA. Sometimes bad decisions are made.
Stub Hub Center is a soccer stadium that holds a total of 29,000 seats. It seems that the Chargers origination could not even reach a sellout crowd. The official attendance number was 25,581. That is a sad comparison to the 57,000 average attendance while in San Diego knowing that their beloved Chargers were leaving.
Roger Goodell, Alex Spanos, and others may have over anticipated the fan pool of the Chargers in LA. If you truly think about, why anyone would want to leave San Diego for LA is beyond me. I guess marketing will be a big push for the NFL despite several teams slumping in attendance this season.
