President Donald Trump went to twitter early this morning to say that the Dallas Cowboys would be standing for the National Anthem after he spoke with owner, Jerry Jones.
Last week at a rally in Alabama the President called on owners of the NFL to fire players who were “disrespecting the American Flag” by kneeling in protest during the National Anthem.
The Cowboys all took a knee Monday night but stood for the anthem. Trump went on recorded to call the display by the Cowboys a “big progress.”
The President wasn’t done Friday night with his bashing of the NFL as he took to twitter Tuesday to bash the NFL for their record low numbers in viewership.
The NFL has been playing the National Anthem for decades but it wasn’t until the 2009 season that the players have been on the field while the anthem has played. Of course it was last year that quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the anthem as a form of protest to bring awareness to police brutality and racial injustice. The move by Kaepernick has divided the country and the NFL on wether kneeling is a sign of disrespect. The controversy over the anthem had just about died down until the President gave it new life with his comments this past Friday.
